In their tweets they use an introductory hashtag (#) so everyone who wants to join in the fun can easily find them by searching Twitter for #(fill in the blank) pawty or #(event name). #Pawties and Events is where you will find out about the #Pawties taking place on Twitter and where I will point you to the official The Anipal Times #Pawty & Events Calendar. Remember to check out the calendar so that you can find the dates and times to mix and mingle with anipals. Now, let’s read about some of the #pawties and events that happened by the deadline for this article (oh, and if you don’t know how to #pawty, don’t worry I got you covered—just read this).

#NipClub

@GeorgeTheDuck rocks #NipClub

This week #NipClub rocked out with some serious headbanging. @GeorgeTheDuck took the stage wearing long blond feather extensions as well as his trademark heart-shaped shades to play some stunning bass guitar riffs, while @pumpkinpuddy set a whole new standard for soaring lead guitar solos. @TweetingTruman’s vocals held the audience spell-bound, and his infectious rhythm guitar held the band together. @TheNascarKitty set the scene with some seriously loud and proud videos, and the evening got so out-of-paw that at one point there were no fewer than three DJs trying to capture the audience’s attention at one time!

There were special appearances from other legendary rockers such as Motley Crue, Metallica, Kiss, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Ratt, Twisted Sister and AC/DC. Fortunately @PepperPom was on hand and beautifully-dressed to add some glamor and sophistication to an otherwise riotous event. Even more fortunately, the #NipClub rockers managed to avoid the fate of Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney, who had the plug pulled on their London gig this week out of deference to their decibel-rating and the local residents’ eardrums. As always, #NipClub rocked on regardless of the hour… so just who is the Boss of rock’ n’ roll?

Members show their #WLF Pride

This month’s #wlfpridepawty saw the unveiling of the pawty Headquarters’ new blog and the DJ debut of @Brodie_Dog’s sisfur, @Beta_Troi. Complimentary plates of catnip cookies at each table (strictly for the over-three-months-old patrons, of course) proved a big attraction, and the comfortable sofas considerately provided in the restrooms for the use of anyone who may have slightly over-indulged on catnip cookies proved useful to quite a number of pawty-goers.

New drinks included the highly popular Mipawri Sours and Catnip Crush, which lived up to its promise that “one glass and you’ll be purring”. Door prizes included mini mice, dog toys and a pawesome photo album. Asked the reason for the instigation of the #wlfpridepawty, a #WLF member who did not wish to be named said: “I want to be as proud to be a Comrade as I was the day I got my beret.” Another added: “We want to welcome our new Comrades by showing them just how pawesome we are.”

#LakeWithPetie

Bode and Nancy

It was champagne all round at #LakeWithPetie when @4catsstrapski (Bode) announced his engagement to @NancyCakeFace. Not only did the proposal itself come as a complete surprise to the bride-to-be, but an even bigger shock for her was that two of the couple’s friends, @TweetingTruman and @cats_meows, had known of Bode’s plans to propose but had managed to keep the secret meowlessly! Best man to be is @TweetingTruman, who is taking his duties so seriously that he already has plans for Bode’s bachelor pawty well under way. @FreshOtis caused quite a stir when he arrived at the lake in a spectacular new outfit which he needed for his acrobatics training with Cirque du Soleil (paid for, the Anipal Times understands, via @MickeyShortTail’s credit card), but @LilyLuWhoT soon restored pals’ confidence that all was normal at the lake by being carted off to #Twitmo.

Pals a-hoppin’: the Potato Sack Race

One of the highlights of the weekend was the eagerly anticipated Potato Sack Race, although it has to be admitted that one or two of the contestants had some difficulty getting the hang of the technique. The team of Doggies eventually beat the Kitties, though as the Kitties took this in a surprisingly laid-back fashion there was some suggestion their potato sacks contained an element of nip. Noms and ‘smores were as always in abundant supply, and (possibly due to suspected over-indulgence by Twitter itself) pals were noticeably slow to rise and shine on Sunday morning. The chance to take to the water by canoe revived them, though, and gave adventurous anipals the time to work up a fine appetite for breakfast while sharpening their rowing skills. A delicious breakfast of bacon, eggs and pancakes was unfortunately interrupted when @3phibotticelli was escorted to her usual cell in #Twitmo, leaving @FreshOtis and @PumpkinPuddy to plan a jet-ski event for later in the day.

@OllyTed shows winners’ medal

Hosts @OllyTed, @SpencerTeddy and @MarshallSheldon and their team of helpers had a hard time judging between the pawesome entries for the #TeddyOlympics (@TeddyOlympics). This year’s events were Hugs, Naps, Pose, Spawt, Treat and Woogle, and the rules were changed slightly to encourage team competition, attracting a record 347 entries to the Games. All the competitors reached a breathtakingly high level of performance, and spectators were treated to some entertaining as well as skillful events. Special crowd-pleasers were the @Kolo_Martin team performance in Synchronised Napping, @MrBearAndRocky in Woogling, and @Bijntje and Jasper the Bear in Hugging. Everyone agreed the Games have been a tremendous success, though @Kolo_Martin voiced concern that although baboons were well-represented in the #TeddyOlympics as a whole, few took part in the Spawt events, and called for baboons to focus on their fitness during the coming year with the aim of being able to mount a much stronger challenge in the event next year.

The medal (shown above around the neck of @OllyTed) is a special design honoring #TeddyOlympics founder @Spencerteddy, and tension grew in the arena as pals waited for the start of the Closing Ceremony, at which the winners’ names would be announced. Finally @OllyTed stepped up to the microphone and made the long-awaited announcement–all the competitors were judged to be joint-winners, and would receive one of the longed-for medals! Spectators cheered as competitors hugged each other in delight, then the #TeddyOlympics were officially declared closed and competitors and spectators headed for the post-event pawty at the Athlete’s Village bar, Gilbert’s Ice Pub. Celebrations continued until well into the night, and some of the more dedicated could be overheard already planning their training for next year. There was general agreement that the upcoming human Games in London have a hard act to follow, and will do well if they provide as much fun as the #TeddyOlympics.

#LWP, Friday through Sunday, 23-25 August 2012. #SpyPawty, Sunday, 29 July 2012 1-4 p.m. EST, USA. Hosts @NancyCakeFace, @Cats_Meows and @TweetingTruman invite you #SpyPawty. Join this fun group as it celebrates @4CatsStrapSki’s (Bode) birthday. Pawty goers are invited to dress as his or her favorite spy—be creative, have some fun.
