#Pawties and Events are where anipals and humans get together for a Twitterin’ good time. In their tweets they use an introductory hashtag (#) so everyone who wants to join in the fun can easily find them by searching Twitter for #(fill in the blank) pawty or #(event name). #Pawties and Events is where you will find out about the #Pawties taking place on Twitter and where I point you to the official The Anipal Times #Pawty & Events Calendar. Remember to check out the calendar so that you can find the dates and times to mix and mingle with anipals. Now let’s read about some of the #pawties and events that happened by the deadline for this article:

#K&TWedding On 20-21 February 2011, anipals gathered to celebrate @PuppyNumber7 and @Keely_Bobs join in howling marital bliss. Wedding #pawty planner @DanaPixie helped coordinate this wonderful event, where friends watched Keely and Thomas tie the knot in a romantic sunset ceremony at Mnemba Island Zanzibar Africa.  The blissful festivities started at 9pm GMT, and Keely and Thomas exchanged their vows an hour after the guests arrived. The bride was glowing in a beautiful ethereal, simple yet elegant, flowing white wedding gown; and the groom enjoyed his happy day in a dashing double-breasted tail coat tuxedo. @FreshOtis lead the couple through their vows, both written special for the other, expressing their love for each other and their dedication to their future together.  After all the pomp and ceremony, anipals gathered to join in the fun, dancing to some great #pawty music, and enjoy the fantastic food.  It was a wonderful time, with anipals coming together to celebrate the couple in a beautiful environment–it was lovely and warm.  Later in the evening, Kelly and Thomas cut their wedding cake and invited all their guests to have a nibble or two; and then waved “goodbye” as they started their life together as Mr. and Mrs.!

#NipClubNZEQ Saturday, 26 February 2o11, a #pawty to benefit animal earthquake relief in New Zealand! As the world now knows, on Tuesday, 22 February 2011, New Zealand experienced a major earthquake.  The 6.3-magnitude quake, detailed by the USGS, rocked New Zealand’s South Island and Christchurch, its largest city at 12:50 p.m. local time. Reports from the New Zealand Herald reflect stories of the casualties and severe damage to the downtown buildings.  Anipals on Twitter received firsthand accounts from our New Zealand pals (@Rumblepurr and @PollyPuss11 to name a few).  Without hesitation anipals joined forces to lend a paw to help the animals of New Zealand. @Rumblepurr set up a Chip-In Donation site for the Christchurch (Canterbury) SPCA to help raise funds for the rescue/relief effort; and the fun critters of #NipClub went in to #pawty-planning mode to create a special event that helped bring some smiles to animals faces, and raise some awareness of (and funds for) the animals suffering repercussions from the devastating earthquake.

While the cause was very serious, and anipals gave numerous compassionate tweets to those in New Zealand, #NipClubNZEQ also allowed for a brief few hours (4-7PM EST, USA) for anipals to let their fur down and #pawty.  Critters joined in the #pawty in droves, dancing to some great tunes spun by @Tildatoo, @Pandafur and @ShaynaCat; and nom on some excellent food served by @MariodaCat, @JinJinDoggy, @Meow_Girls, @BunnyJeanCook, @TinyPearlCat and @PepiSmartDog.  While everyone shimmied their way around the dance floor, and basically made animals out of themselves, the donations for the New Zealand animals poured in!  The original goal of $1,000 was quickly surpassed before the #pawty even began; but, that did not stop animals from opening their pocket books, and hearts, to the plight that, without warning, befell our New Zealand friends. So far, through the kind and generous giving of the anipal community, nearly $2,200 has been raised!  #NipClub always rocks, but this special event, #NipClubNZEQ, focusing on the needs of our animal brothers and sisters in New Zealand, really highlighted the compassion and kind heartedness of our loving anipal community.
