#Pawties and Events are where anipals and humans get together for a Twitterin’ good time. In their tweets they use an introductory hashtag (#) so everyone who wants to join in the fun can easily find them by searching Twitter for #(fill in the blank) pawty or #(event name). #Pawties and Events is where you will find out about the #Pawties taking place on Twitter and where I point you to the official The Anipal Times #Pawty & Events Calendar. Remember to check out the calendar so that you can find the dates and times to mix and mingle with anipals. Now let’s read about some of the #pawties and events that happened by the deadline for this article:

#AAAC Anipal Academy Awards Ceremony

A brilliant team of creative anipals, working feverishly over the last few months, brought us the Anipal Academy Awards (found on Twitter at @AnipalAwards and hashtag of #AAAC) throughout the weekend of 16 July to 17 July 2010.  The #AAAC pre-pawty, held on Friday night, 16 July 2010, was a night full of glamour, where all the anipals donned designer duds and strutted their “stuff” down the red carpet.  The champagne flowed, the pawparazzi snapped pictures, “Hall of Fame” stars were handed out, and all of the anipals had a fabulous time getting ready for the big Saturday event–the unveiling of the 2010 #AAAC winners!

The #AAAC Team and Awards:

The #AAAC team, consisting of @TheNascarKitty, @AutumntheDoxie, @SeattleP, @Mariodacat, @bunnyJeanCook, @GeorgetheDuck, @TinyPearlCat, @FlaCatLady, @PuppyJones, @LittleManFestus, @DaphneDox, @MissBusyBiz, @PepiSmartDog and @RosieandCheeto; spent months planning and preparing for this star-studded event where the awards, in ten major categories, voted on by all of Twitter, were given in the following categories: Coolest Cat: @PetietheCat; Coolest Dog: @MattieDog; Coolest Other: @ZackRabbit; Coolest Human: @DanaPixie; Coolest Newbie: @JBHippo; Coolest Avatar: @TrailerParkDogs; Most Creative: @Niqqi; Most Kindhearted: @MariotheCat and @ForeverGinger; Most Likely to Take Over the World: @GeorgetheDuck; and Funniest Over All: @RosieandCheeto.

The #AAAC celebrity judges panel of @ZackRabbit, @PuppyaGuineapig ,@MizzBassie, @BZTAT and @ShibberingC (Da Shibbering Cheetos), presented the Video and Photo category winners: a tie for Best Camera Man and Woman: @MonkeysBrother and @ShivaandJaya; Best Props Department: @CokietheCat; Best Action Sequences: @Tig0Eyes;  Best Staff in Video: @Frugaldougal; Worst Performance in Video: @Ryker_Tyker;  Best Photo-Still in Video: @Yoda_the_dog; Best Set Maker: @Niqqi; and Favorite Photo: @AkitasLOL.  #AAAC had three People Choice Awards: Favorite Anipal: @HenryandFriends; Favorite Blog: @AlberttheCat; and Giggle Instigator: @RosieandCheeto. Also, #AAAC gave out two very special awards: @Frugaldougal for Anipalterian (similar to a humanitarian award, but for anipals) and @Romeothecat for Most Innovative FurPower Efforts.

There was a particularly touching #AAAC segment where @PepiSmartDog reminded us all of the joy and love that exists for our special ones who have passed Over the Rainbow Bridge.  All of the anipals here are winners.  Please visit the special #AAAC RB blog to learn more (bring a hankie and a joyous heart).

#PawPawty

This month’s #PawPawty embraced the #AAAC event, collaborating to make this month’s grand-daddy of all #pawties one of the biggest and baddest that Twitter has ever seen!  @FrugalDougal hosted anipals and anipal lovers alike at his big monthly #PawPawty event on 17 July to 18 July 2010.  Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, noshing on tasty treats created special for this Academy Awards themed #pawty; and anipals went crazy dancing the night away (for those of you who may still be missing some of your undergarments you tossed up on stage, there is a lost-and-found box in the coat check area).

The July #PawPawty was a great event that to date has raised over $1,300 for the Colorado State University Animal Cancer Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. Animal cancer is very serious, so all of the help that we can offer, whether in donations and or supporting anipals experiencing cancer, is important.  “Because,” said @FrugalDougal “we’ve lost so many anipals over the past few years to cancer, we thought it was fitting to support a great organization who leads the way in finding new treatments. Their mission is to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in pet animals, translating their research and knowledge to also benefit people with cancer.”  This month’s #PawPawty donations are being matched by a gracious, and anonymous individual in honor of Kari, a female Golden Retriever who helped pioneer chemotherapy protocols for animals. Read more about Kari and all of the wonderful clinical advancement she has helped to create in order to some day beat cancer, head-on!  So, please consider making a #PawPawty donation to help fight cancer, it’s not too late.
