Movie Review: Madagascar

3 July 2010

written by Lexie in the Movies section of The Anipal Times

Dis week I fort we try to turn off da waterworks and has ourselfs a bit if a larf. Dis is the first movie of three (Madagascar 3 is out in 2012)  and is a great one from Dreamworks.

Madagascar

Released: 2005
Main cast: Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo.
Chuckle factor: 9. I haven’t given dis one a blubability factor coz I don’t fink there was any crying! Oh maybe a little in the second movie.
Quick synopsis of da plot: The film tells the story of four Central Park Zoo animals who have spent their lives in blissful captivity and are accidentally shipped back to Africa, getting shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar, which they believe to be somewhere in California.

The movie starts wif us finding out more about these four pals. Alex is the mascot of the zoo. He lives a pampered life and is the star of the show. He is completely tame, and loves to play with the children who visit. He lives for the delicious juicy raw steak they feed him every day.

Gloria is a no-nonsense hippo who also loves the pampered, sheltered life. Melman is a hypochondriac giraffe whose attention-seeking behaviour gets him a daily CAT scan and huge quantities of pills. Marty is a zebra, and he is Alex’s best friend.

Followin our introduction of dese guys, there follows a series of very funny events that ends wif dem stranded on the coast of Madagascar.

Marty is happy. He is in the wild an lovin it! Gloria and Melman eventually get used to it too. Alex sulks, but den he cheer up an tries to enjoy it. But…there’s a problem. No steak. And as his primal feeding instincts try to take over, Alex realizes what steak really is (he never knew, it appeared magically in the zoo) and that his closest friends are also his natural source of meat!

Dis film has some funny gags an great voice-over cast.I fink dat Julien, the hilarious king of the island’s local lemur population is da funniest. The lemurs an penguins add even more to the film an I can recommend this an den treat yourself to da follow-up movie Madagascar: Escape to Africa.
