WITH @FRUGALDOUGAL
Frugal Dougal was nominated for all the amazing and tireless work he does in organizing the #pawpawty events which help to raise much needed funds for animal charities around the globe.
So, Frugal, who won instead of you and how did you feel about dat?
While I was sad not to win, I think that all of the guys nominated were worthy winners because all of them are trying to help either people or animals in trouble. The guys who won did get a lot more votes than me, so I guess that went in their favour, but it would be nice to see them engage more with their audience, they just seem to push messages out and not get into conversation with their followers.
How excited were you about being nominated in da first instance?
I was very excited, I did a whole body wag for nearly a whole week, it was an honour to get so many votes from mai pals and people who support the pawpawty events and help us help animals all over the world.
What did mum and dad fink about going to NY, NY?
The staff were very excited about going to New York, they had been before, but not together, so it was great for them to be able to do that.
How boring did the staff fink dat da MC wuz…or not?
Well, we not know him very well mai pal cause he is famous on US telly, so for the first time we saw him we thought maybe he might have been a bit funnier, to be honest the award ceremony itself was not the highlight, it was the before and after events that were most fun!
Who did they meet and where did they stay?
Well, they met up with some of my twitter pals’ staffs including @yoda_the_dog @brewskiebutt, @tildatoo and @baychildcare’s staff the night before the awards, and they had a lot of fun with them. I think beer and wine was involved!
They stayed in the SoHo Grand hotel which is a very swanky place in Soho, and they loved looking round all of the shops in NYC!
At the Awards Ceremony they spoke to:
Jason Sadler @iwearyourshirt – nominee Advertising
Lar deSouza @lartist – nominee Art
Jamie Wojdowski @wojo4hitz nominee Art
Daniel Lewis @sesamestreet – joint winner Brand
iD3sign &Co @iD3SIGNandCo – nominee Design
Crosby Rombeger @BlingCrosby – nominee Design
Amy Cao @amyblogschow – nominee Food
Matt Laslo @CapitolCircle – nominee Politics
Lei Seca RJ- @leiSecaRJ – nominee News
Paul Smith- winner Travel
The Llama @DoWhatI TellYou
Carel Pedre @carelpedre – Winner Special Award
What were their “fav” moments?
- Meeting anipals’ staffs;
- Getting to touch a Shorty Award even if we did not win one;
- Staying up until 3 am on the night of the awards;
- Picking the doggie outfit;
- Getting back home to hug and snuggle with me!
Finally, was da trip worth it?
Oh yes, it was totally worth it. Da staff made a lot of contacts who can help us spread the word about the #pawpawty events as well as meeting some virtual pals face to face, that was priceless!

WITH @BZTAT
It was a huge honor to be nominated as a finalist in the Shorty Awards. Not only was it exciting to be among the finest users of the Twitter platform, it was very special to me to represent the “anipal” community on Twitter. I was so moved to read the beautiful remarks that people made about my artwork in their nominations. I had no idea that my work had reached so many people in such a deeply moving way. Every artist dreams of having that kind of impact with their work.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with some of my Twitter pals in New York City for the Shorty Awards trip! Spending time with @FrugalDougal’s staff and @Yoda_the_Dog’s mom was one of the greatest memories that I will ever have, and meeting up with other anipals’ staff was a blast as well. I cannot wait to meet other Twitter friends at the first ever pet blogging conference, BlogPaws, in Columbus, OH April 9-10!
I had the opportunity to meet two of the others nominated in my category at the Shorty Awards– @lartist and @wojo4hitz. Both are wonderfully talented artists in their own right and they use Twitter in very creative ways to engage with their following. The winner, @DeviantArt, was not present, but I am familiar with the organization. They do a great job of representing many artists around the world, and I am an admirer. Anyone in this group would have been a worthy winner. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to be a part of the whole process with them.
THE ACTUAL AWARDS involving our Twitter pals were:
@frugaldougal – 2nd place in Non-Profit category (his mum and dad attended)
@BZTAT – 3rd place in the Art category
@yoda_the_dog’s Mom – 3rd place in Government as @VAStateParks
@tildatoo also attended in order to hang out with all da anipal celebs!
It should also be recorded that our dear furrend, @ZackRabbit, was awarded 1st place in Awesome (not an official category, but an honour nonethless!) but was unable to attend.
ConCATulations to all concerned!
