We all love a good pawpawty, and it’s great when we hit the fundraising target for a charity – but have you ever wondered what happens next? Well, I decided to find out if we helped make a difference to Sunny Harbour Cat & Kitten Rescue, the chosen charity in November 2009.
Sunny Harbour is a small, family-run rescue in Lochgelly, Scotland. When they were chosen as November’s recipients, they had just heard about a feral cat colony about 30 minutes drive away. They wanted to help, but money was tight – until the pawpawty came along! The money we raised meant that Sarah and Paul could buy drop traps and cages to start a Trap-Neuter-Release programme. The first group of about 7 or 8 cats were caught in late February and released back to the colony a couple of days later, after their “wee operations”
Also, as a result of the feral programme, 3 of the kittens from the colony were caught while still young enough to be tamed. My hooman visited recently and took some photos of two of them which she is letting me share with you all.
Kittens!
Lily is the tabby and white kitten; she was the first kitten caught by Sarah and Paul. She is very sweet and friendly, and even curled up in my hooman’s lap for cuddles and tummy strokes!
And the black and white girl is her sister Kali, who was a little bit more shy, but still happy to be petted!
They are both beautiful wee girls, and thanks to Sunny Harbour and all the pawpawty anipals, they and their sister Baby have found loving forever homes – a far cry from life as a feral cat!
I hope that you found this interesting. You can find out more about Sunny Harbour’s Feral Cat Programme here: Feral Project and follow them on Twitter here: Sunny Harbour
