Niqqi's AvatarPawties have become the social gatherings to attend. From themed events to impromptu get-togethers, pawties are the perfect venue to virtually connect with all your friends and meet new ones, while having a great time along the way. In many cases the attendees also have the opportunity to make a social impact by supporting a charity.

It is customary to appropriately dress up one’s avatar (or profile pic) for each particular occasion. Inevitably, the first question that pops into any girl’s mind when finding out about an upcoming event is, “What am I going to wear?” followed by “Does that color look good on me? and “Does this dress make me look fat?”

What your avatar should wear to a Twitter pawty.

Sometimes, there is plenty of time to dress up your avatar image for a pawty – a good example being for @FrugalDougal’s Twitter pawparties – but there are times when there seems to be nothing “just right” in the avatar closet and there is clearly not enough time to go shopping for that perfect outfit.

The answer for pawty preparedness may hinge on these simple organizational steps:

  • Divide your avatar closet into categories including casual, activewear, afternoon, formal, etc., ensuring there is something to wear at paw’s reach.
  • List all major holidays and have an outfit ready to go for each occasion.
  • Always, always have that little black dress available. High heels and a little handbag are a must.
  • Organize your hair and neck accessories accordingly.

Inventorying the virtual avatar closet will give a clear assessment of what might be missing, and will lead to the most favorite phrase in any girl’s vocabulary, “Let’s go shopping!”

The process begins by having a few good portraits of yourself: front, side and back. Having several different poses, such as sitting, standing, or laying down, will also come in handy. That constitutes the base for any good avatar change.

FACEinHOLE.com is an excellent next stop, as there are innumerable outfit options that will address any occasion. The best part is that it is free and that following the simple instructions will result in a great new outfit. A word of caution, however, before visiting any site that has free user uploaded content is to make sure that all virus/phishing/malware controls are up to date.

Images on the Internet may also be a great source for finding the perfect outfit, abiding, of course, with the copyright laws that may apply. Simple editing software allows for trying anything on, resulting in just the right outfit picture.

Real attire can be made or purchased and worn. A good photograph is essential.

Finally, always ask your BFF if the color is right for your fur/hair and if it makes you look skinny. Never rely on your better half, because he will always tell you you look good, and you will never know the truth.

Once the image is ready, uploading the right pawty avatar is only a few steps away. The new image should be saved to a size no larger than 500 x 500 px and no smaller than 400 x 400 px. A Twitter avatar can then be changed by clicking the “Settings” and then the “Profile” tabs by uploading that image and saving the settings at the bottom of the page.

Having a vast wardrobe and an outfit for every occasion is a girl’s dream come true. No virtual avatar closet is ever big enough. So… happy organizing and shopping, Twittergirls! Until we meet at the next pawty!
